Remember, Remember, Sober September (read aloud by Reilly)

What an annual month of sobriety has taught me about alcohol and myself

Every year I take a month off drinking and every year I ask the same question: why do I keep going back to it?

This is a very honest, very earnest, very personal attempt to answer that question.

In this episode, I reflect on:

  • The expected (and unexpected) benefits of a month without alcohol

  • What science says about alcohol’s harms—and what anthropology reveals about its appeal

  • The second best way to avoid a hangover

  • Why I still drink, even knowing what I know

  • And what my Sober Septembers have come to mean

Whether you’re a seasoned drinker, sober, sober curious, or something else, I hope this gives you something to think about. Cheers to just saying “know.”
