When All You've Got to Keep is Strong (read aloud by Reilly)

Rediscovering a high school anthem two decades later

Hey beloved readers, I’m trying an experiment this week.

I’ve had this long-running theory that some of my writing, maybe all of it, would sound better read aloud.

There are several reasons for this.

The first is that I naturally write in the voice I speak in. Honestly, I already read every single one of these quirky, tangent-filled essays aloud before I schedule and publish them, just to double check everything, feel out the flow, and pressure test them before they head out into the world.

The second is that I’m curious how many of you would enjoy it more if you could consume these essays the way you already consume so much media like podcasts and audiobooks: as something to put on during your commute, while doing dishes, or folding laundry.

I realize not everyone likes spending more time reading things on their phone or computer, even exceptional essays about shark movies and Taylor Swift. The fact that consuming my essays asks busy people like you to spend even more time looking at your email inbox has always struck me as odd and a bit unfair.

Maybe it would be easier to listen to this stuff instead.

So here is an experimental first pass at what it would sound like to get your favorite WrylyReilly essays read aloud by yours truly.

I hope you enjoy listening!

With gratitude,

-Reilly
